TECH5, an innovator in the field of biometrics and digital identity management, and its local partner, International Technology Group (ITG), were awarded the project for implementing the Digital ID program of the Republic of Honduras which will become the basis of a comprehensive decentralized digital public infrastructure.
The project aims to digitize 4 key physical documents carried by citizens today and store them in a digital identity wallet, downloadable onto the holder’s smartphone: a National ID card, a Foreign Resident ID document, a Driving License, and a Firearms Permit. The access to the digital wallet for the management and presentations of these credentials will be protected with the holder’s biometrics.
For this project, TECH5 will deliver a comprehensive standards-based platform that establishes trust between the various ecosystem participants, a wallet infrastructure that enables frictionless onboarding, and credential management and presentation. The wallet super app leverages TECH5’s T5-AirSnap contactless capture technologies for face and fingerprint biometric modalities to ensure fast and accurate biometric capture during onboarding and verification of citizens. The solution will also include an offline verifiable digital credential – T5-Cryptograph – for secure storage and selective disclosure of citizens’ data. The digital ID platform for issuance and trust will leverage the KeyShare platform tightly integrated with TECH5 technologies and services built on top to deliver multiple use cases, secured by biometrics based digital ID.
The initial scope of the program planned for the first half of 2025 is the setup of the wallet infrastructure, including an official verification application designed to scale and service the entire population of Honduras following the W3C standard for decentralized verifiable credentials. The “trust anchor” of the program for the generation of the credentials will be the biometric databases managed by the National Registry (RNP) and the Immigration Authority (INM).
“This digital ID and wallet project is part of the Republic of Honduras’ journey towards establishing transformative Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in our country. The government of Honduras will be leading the region in this development area by digitizing four important credentials for national citizens and foreign residents alike. We are proud to be working with TECH5 and its world-leading biometric technologies to establish a DPI program that the rest of the region will want to emulate.” – Says Gerardo Pacheco, CEO at International Technology Group.
“We are very excited to be part of this innovative project led by our partner ITG, where the next step will be the creation of the infrastructure and use cases, including eKYC, SSO, and enabling payments between all the entities that are empowered by the program: citizens; merchants and enterprises; government; banks and financial institutions; multi-lateral and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The delivered ecosystem will become the basis for a Digital Public Infrastructure enabling rails for identity, payments, digital assets and data exchange, mostly in a decentralized fashion. We truly believe that technologies empowering DPI will change the way the world is using digital identities and will boost the economies of countries adopting it.” – Comments Rahul Parthe, Co-Founder, Chairman and CTO at TECH5.
